Peppertree Bags are passionate about local South African talent and skilfully combine Design Team fabrics with the best quality components and leathers in South Africa. Patterns are cut by hand in their Stellenbosch studio and then passed on to a team of talented seamstresses who ensure there is quality in every stitch.
Juleiga Classen, Head Seamstress, has worked with the founder of Peppertree Bags, Tanya Spotswood, since the beginning. Now Juleiga's family have joined the business and Tanya has helped them form a co-operative with full responsibility for the sewing aspect of the bag-making process; so helping to empower and uplift a whole community. Plans are afoot to replicate the model, training new people with the skills to meet the rising demand for Peppertree Bags.
If there’s a prize for ‘office in the most amazing location’, these ladies win it hands down: the Peppertree office is set in the shadow of the Stellenbosch Mountains in an area known as Blaauwklippen, from the Dutch word meaning ‘blue rocks’. What a truly beautiful setting to be creative in!
